On Friday, March 11 Auberge du Soleil hosted a fabulous event with Chateau Montelena Winery, honoring the 40th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris. In attendance was Proprietor, Judy Barrett, President, Bo Barrett, along with his wife Heidi Barrett and Winemaker, Matt Crafton. This exclusive, 70-seat, sold out dinner was the perfect way to toast the 1976 ‘Judgment of Paris’ that catapulted Napa Valley wines onto the worldwide stage.
Executive Chef Robert Curry created a signature five-course menu paired with a selection of the winery’s award-winning white and red varietals. The rich cuisine included; Maine Lobster Salad, Cilantro, Coconut, Mango, Curry; Sautéed Day Boat Scallop, Roasted Cauliflower, Currants, Prosciutto; Liberty Farms Duck, Potato Gnocchi, Grilled Radicchio, Pickled Kumquats and Whole Roasted Filet Mignon, Wild Mushrooms, Potato Croquettes, Béarnaise.
Auberge du Soleil’s Wine Director, Kris Margerum, was on hand to commence the evening and introduce Judy and Bo Barrett. Guest of honor, Bo Barrett, brought everyone ‘back in time’ to 1976 showcasing the winery’s famed wines and stories surrounding this historic event. Chateau Montelena brought magnums of their 2008 & 2013 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay to taste the vintages side by side. As well as 2007 & 2013 Chateau Montelena Zinfandel and 2001 & 2010 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with the main course.
Auberge’s Executive Pastry Chef, Paul Lemieux, served a Agrumato Chiffon Cake for dessert. This paired wonderfully with Chateau Montelena’s 2005 “Late Harvest” Sauvignon Blanc. There were many birthdays, anniversaries and even a set of newlyweds celebrating with us. This made the dessert course that evening extra sweet.
